LanCook: Learning languages, cultures and cuisines in digital interactive kitchens
With the support of the Lifelong Learning programme of the EU, Lancook is an exciting project which involves developing language learning materials for European languages and cuisines. The project involves partners throughout Europe: Newcastle University (English), Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (Italian), Helsingin yliopisto (Finnish), Universität Paderborn (German) and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spanish and Catalan).
We will create technologically-enhanced language learning materials which allow a kitchen to give step-by-step instructions in European languages on how to prepare a culturally relevant dish.
LanCook addresses issues such as bringing culture to life in the classroom, increasing motivation and developing cross-curricular approaches to language learning.
We will be developing materials with learners linked to the CEFR levels A to C from those in adult, higher education, vocational courses such as hospitality and catering as well as migrants and overseas students.
