About 120 schools teach bilingual education in the province of Malagá (Spain)
According to data provided by the Department of Education in Malagá, 113 schools have chosen English, nine French and three German and one of them is giving classes in both English and French.
In these bilingual schools, language assistants are recruited in order to help students practicing oral conversation in the foreign language. Through them students are exposed to native accents and authentic vocabulary. Language assistants serve as a primary source on the culture of their own country. They also assist teachers by collaborating to plan lessons, create materials in the foreign language and teach in class along with the class teacher.
Students in bilingual schools enjoy preferential access to various initiatives related to language teaching. In particular, some 3,000 students from Malaga participated this year in Language and Youth Programmes, Camps and Exchange Language Immersion School.
Regarding the lingustical and didactical teacher training, teachers have access to the Adaptation courses Linguistics (CAL) of the official language schools. They can also complete their training thanks grants for language immersion courses in schools of France, Britain and Austria. Others benefits from a fully paided grant to study languages. On the other hand, the teacher centers also organize numerous training activities such as working groups, workshops and courses.
