20th Anniversary IATEFL PL Conference
Stowarzyszenie Nauczycieli Języka Angielskiego w Polsce, otherwise known as IATEFL Poland, is the major organisation for English teaching professionals in Poland, which aims to reach out to a wide circle of teachers from all levels of the Polish educational system. Membership is open to all teachers of English in Poland, both active and retired, and to students of Teacher Training Colleges and English Language Faculties.
IATEFL Poland offers a range of services and publications to support its members, including:
- workshop meetings in regional centres, covering matters of professional interest to the members,
- a newsletter, featuring articles from IATEFL members all over the world,
- nine Special Interest Groups within the Association with their own membership, meetings, newsletters, etc. to support specific groups of members.
IATEFL Poland also runs an annual two or three-day conference, with papers, workshops and presentations, as well as exhibitions of books and other teaching materials. This year was the 20th annual IATEFL Conference, and it took place in Warsaw, 9th-11th September 2011. Keynote speakers included Graham Stanley, social media consultant for the British Council, Jamie Keddie, teacher trainer at Norwich Institute for Language Education, Michael McCarthy, Emeritus Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Nottingham, Grzegorz Śpiewak, lecturer at the institute of English Studies, University of Warsaw and former president of IATEFL-Poland, and Piotr Steinbrich, teacher trainer at Pearson Education.
