Education report warns of growing teacher shortages Brussels, 10 February 2012 – Several Member States, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria and Belgium, may face serious teacher shortages in the future, according to a new report published by the European Commission.

The special research group into German for specific purposes (Groupe d’Étude et de Recherche en Allemand de Spécialité - GERALS), created in Dijon, France in March 2011 is to hold its first study day at Stendhal University - Grenoble III in France on Friday 16 March 2012.

eTwinning Learning Events are short intensive online events on a number of themes. They are led by an eTwinning expert and include active work and discussion among teachers across Europe. The idea of a Learning Event is that it is a short intense course that offers teachers an introduction to a topic, stimulates ideas, helps develop skills and does not require a long-term commitment in terms of time. ELPiPL was a Lifelong Learning project funded by the European Commission with an objective to develop the use of the European Language Portfolio (ELP) in cooperation with secondary and tertiary level educational institutions, language teachers, language learners, enterprises and Europass Centres. The project has formulated a number of recommendations that are available here on the REAL website and on the project website.

The Disabled Access Friendly campaign aims to sensitise students to issues affecting people with mobility disability. Its reaches people through the teaching of English as a foreign language. The website provides teachers with free teaching material that can be used in class, for projects or examination practice, but at the same time stimulates students to put themselves in the shoes of someone with a mobility/disability, for a better understanding of their needs and feelings.

La idea del projecto Eurêkol es de proponer a los maestros de escuelas primarias una manera original y lúdica para enseñar las problemáticas europeas en clase. El material se estructura en seis hojas sobre la Unión Europea : la primera consiste en una introducción de la Unión Europea mientras que las otras presentan su historia, sus símbolos, el euro, la agricultura y la geografía del Unión.
