ELDIA (European Language Diversity for All) is an interdisciplinary research project for reconceptualizing, promoting and re-evaluating individual and societal multilingualism. It will be running until 2013. Experts on applied linguistics and sociolinguistics, law, social studies and statistics, drawn from eight universities in six European countries, work together to contribute to a better understanding of how local, “national” and “international” (vehicular) languages interact in contemporary Europe.

More than 213 000 students received Erasmus grants to study or train abroad during the 2009-10 academic year - a new record and a 7.4% increase on the previous year's figure. Erasmus, created in 1987, is the world's most successful student exchange programme. The EU invested € 415 million in it in 2009-10.

The European Commission has just published the results of public consultations on the future European programme in education and training from 2014. Between September and November 2010, anyone interested was invited to give their opinions on the design of the funding programmes under the next multiannual budget of the European Union.
