REAL Seminar for Teachers | Augsburg, Germany: 15-18 September 2010

Bringing Europe into the Foreign Language Classroom

This seminar, organised as part of the REAL2 project in cooperation with the University of Augsburg and the Gesamtverband Moderne Fremdsprachen (GMF), aims to explore how European issues can be brought into the foreign language classroom

 

Target audience

> This training event is aimed at European language teachers.

> Teachers who are not yet members of a language teacher association are particularly welcome.

Objectifs

- Raising awareness of the new European Network of Language Teachers.
- Helping to enrich language teachers’ skills by reflecting together on ways in which to motivate pupils ;
- Creating a platform for cooperation and exchange between teachers of different European languages.

Structure

> The seminar will be structured around presentations and workshops exploring various aspects of this topic. The following themes, and their relationship to the foreign languages classroom, will be the focus of the seminar’s debates:

                • integrating the concept of lifelong learning into the secondary school language classroom;
                • encouraging teachers of different foreign languages to work together;
                • developing the concept of intercomprehension
                • raising awareness of European language policy in the language classroom.

The registration deadline is: Monday 13 September 2010

REAL participants are not required to pay a registration fee for the Congress or the seminar.

Those wishing to attend the conference dinner (price €20), should, however make this payment to the event organisers. Account details are available here.

Simultaneous interpreting will be available in English, French and German.

Accommodation

Accommodation can be booked through the Augsburg Tourist Information Office, click here. It is recommended to choose a hotel in the city centre and travel to the campus, since there are no hotels on or near the campus.

Please make sure to book accommodation well in advance as the Oktoberfest in Munich begins on 18 September 2010.
