The Council of Europe has published the fourth report on the application of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages in Germany. It has been drafted by the committee of experts that monitors the application of the Charter.

Čeština pro cizince is a website run by the Research Institute of Education in Prague since June 2008 as commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The portal is thematically oriented mainly on the examination in the Czech language for permanent residence in the Czech Republic. As of January 2009, successful completion of the examination is a prerequisite for a foreigner to obtain a permit for permanent residence in the Czech Republic.

Der Deutsch-Französischer Tag 2011 wird, wie jedes Jahr, am 22. Januar stattfinden. Die Partnerssprache wurde als gemeinsames Thema von beiden Ländern ausgewählt: in Frankreich „L'allemand, passeport pour l'avenir“ (Deutsch, Pass für die Zukunft) ; in Deutschland „Französisch, dein Weg zum Erfolg“.

Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou is backing an international declaration calling for more awareness-raising in schools and universities about the importance of language learning and career opportunities for interpreters, translators and other skilled language professionals. The declaration was issued following a meeting of the heads of language and conference services of 76 international organisations at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris from 21-23 June 2010.
