PRIX EUROPA 2010: Winner for Best Video on Languages

25/10/2010

This year's PRIX EUROPA category 'Languages through Lenses' was won by Elina and Mike Pohjola from Finland for their video 'The Forest of Babel' on Monday 25 October 2010.

The project is created by Elina and Mike Pohjola, a husband-and-wife team from Helsinki. Elina produces, Mike writes and they direct together. They’re both students at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, and also have their own production company Pohjola-filmi.

Citation from the verdict of the jury: "Children from three European linguistic minorities express the will for co-operation and understanding. The delegates were impressed by the beauty of it’s images, clear story and message."

Students all over Europe took up the challenge to show the advantages of foreign language skills through their video lenses. Fifteen entries were selected and enjoyed the privilege of participating in the prestigious festival in Berlin. For many of them, this was the first opportunity to discuss their work with experienced professionals from all over Europe in a specialised and competitive environment - an important step in their filmmaking career.

The competition was organised jointly by the European Commission, ELIA and Prix Europa.
